The Jacksons and Mick Jagger – State Of Shock

* Produced by Michael Jackson
* Composed by Michael Jackson
and Randy Hansen

Written by Michael with 14 year old Randy Hansen. It was first recorded by the Jacksons with Mick Jagger, for their Victory album, issued in July 1984.

Lead single from the album, credited ‘Lead vocals by Michael Jackson & Mick Jagger’. A dance mix featured additional vocals; instrumental version also released.

It achieved no.3 on the Hot 100 and no.4 on the R&B singles chart in the US, but stalled at no.14 in the UK (the only country where it was issued as a picture disc).

Jagger, it was reported, would join the Jacksons on stage on 4th/5th August 1984, at Madison Square Garden, to perform the song during the group’s Victory Tour – from this, a promo video was to have been made. Despite confirmation from Chuck Sullivan, tour promoter, Jagger never appeared.

It’s one of three songs Michael worked on with Queen’s lead vocalist, Freddy Mercury, in 1983 – the others were There Must Be More To Life Than This and Victory.

"I was going to be on Thriller," confirmed Freddie, before his death from an AIDS-related illness in November 1991. "We had three songs in the can but, unfortunately, they were never finished."

This demo version by Michael and Freddie surfaced on the internet in 2002 – no official release.

State Of Shock – Lyrics

Yeah, come on, babe

Gotta be mine
’Cause you’re so fine
I like your style
It makes me wild
You take it to me good
Yeah, like you know you should
You get me on my knees
But please, baby, please

Listen
She looks so great
Everytime I see her face
She put me in a state
A state of shock

We’re doin’ it
Come on, babe
Come on, baby
Come on, let me hear it

She put me on my knees
Please, baby, please
I know you like to tease
But please, baby, please
You take it to me good
Like you know you should
I love the way you walk
And talk, baby, talk

Listen
She looks so great
Everytime I see her face
She put me in a state
A state of shock

She put me
Come over here
No, come over here
Talk, talk to me
You put me in
You know I really love you, babe

You know I really want you, mama
You got me paralyzed
You got me paralyzed, mama
You got me catatonic
You got me catatonic, baby
Got me supersonic
You got me supersonic, baby
I’m deep fried
You know I’m deep fried

Yeah, look what you’ve done to me
Look what you’ve done to me
Look what you’ve done to me
Yeah, I can hardly moved
You know, I need mouth to mouth resuscitation
Come on, baby
You know, I really love you, baby
You know, I really want you, mama
Yeah baby, just look at me, look at me
You got me
You got me, you got me, you got me in a state of shock
You got me in
Look at me, look at me, look at me
Oh, look at me
