Michael Jackson – Butterflies (Promo Edit)

Written by Marsha Ambrosius (of the UK duo Floetry, also provides backing vocals) and recorded and co-produced by Michael and Andre Harris.

Both the Floetry girls, Marsha and Natalie Stewart, were invited by Michael to visit the studio while he was recording the track.

"It was incredible because he asked," said Ambrosius, "he continually asked, ‘Marsh, what’s the next harmony? Girls, does this sound right? What do you think? is this what you were looking for?’ He was so open."

Released to Ammerican radio stations in October 2001, and became the second of Michael’s singles to chart the strength of airplay alone. Achieved no.2 on the R&B singles chart and no.14 on the hot 100 – however, the lack of a commercial single almost certainly cost Michael a chart topper.

An original demo version recorded by Floetry was included on the duo’s debut album, ‘Floetry’, as a bonus track.

Butterflies – Lyrics

All you gotta do is just walk away and pass me by
Dont acknowledge my smile when I try to say hello to you, yeah
And all you gotta do is not answer my calls when
Im trying to get through
To keep me wondering why, when all I can do is sigh
I just wanna touch you

[chorus]
I just wanna touch and kiss
And I wish that I could be with you tonight
You give me butterflies inside, inside and i

All I gotta say is that I must be dreaming, cant be real
Youre not here with me, still I can feel you near me
I caress you, let you taste us, just so blissful listen
I would give you anything baby, just make my dreams come true
Oh baby you give me butterflies

[chorus]
I just wanna touch and kiss
And I wish that I could be with you tonight
You give me butterflies inside, inside and i
I just wanna touch and kiss
And I wish that I could be with you tonight
You give me butterflies inside, inside and i

If you would take my hand, baby I would show you
Guide you to the light babe
If you would be my love, baby I will love you, love you
til the end of time

[chorus]
I just wanna touch and kiss
And I wish that I could be with you tonight
You give me butterflies inside, inside and i
I just wanna touch and kiss
And I wish that I could be with you tonight
You give me butterflies inside, inside and i
I just wanna touch and kiss
And I wish that I could be with you tonight
You give me butterflies inside, inside and i
