The Ummah is a music production collective, composed of members Q-Tip and Ali Shaheed Muhammad of A Tribe Called Quest, and the late Jay Dee (also known as J Dilla) of the Detroit based group Slum Village. The word "ummah" is Arabic for "community" or "brotherhood". The late J Dilla was a prominent figure in the hip hop scene, inspiring many of his own generation with a gift he had for making craft and luscious beats that were more personal than being street-friendly or club-ready, which made every work of his so unique and celebrated. RIP Dilla.
