The Jackson 5 – Stand

Sly & The Family Stone cover the Jackson 5 recorded for their debut album, Diana Ross Presents The Jackson 5, issued in December 1969 in the US and March 1970 in the UK.

It is the first song the Jackson 5 recorded, on 17th May 1969, for Motown. It was performed during their first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show in the US in 1969.

A live version recorded at the Jackson 5’s homecoming concert in Gary, Indiana, on 29th May 1971, was included on their album, Goin’ Back To Indiana, issued in September 1971 in the US. Footage was screened on the group’s Goin’ Back To Indiana TV special and aired in the US on 19th September 1971.

The title was given to a budget reissue of Goin’ Back To Indiana, minus Maybe Tomorrow, released in the USA in 1974.

Sly & The Family Stone took the song to no.14 on the R&B singles chart and no.22 on the Hot 100 in the US in 1969.
