After the monumental success of Thriller, Michael Jackson and co-producer/collaborator Quincy Jones produced a slicker funk/dance confection.
Bad is currently certified at 8x Platinum by the RIAA in the United States, and worldwide has sold an estimated 32 million copies. In addition it achieved 5 #1 singles in the U.S., a record that has never been broken.

Michael Jackson set another record with this album, becoming the first (and currently, only) artist to have five songs to hit #1 from one album.

It turned out to be the last collaborative effort by Jackson and Jones.

In September of 1987, Jackson embarked upon his first solo world tour to support this album - The Bad Tour, which saw Jackson during the next sixteen months perform 123 concerts to over 4.4 million fans worldwide.

In 2001, a special edition was released with three new songs and a booklet containing lyrics and never-before-seen photos.

I was 4 when Bad came out. I'll never forget the first time I saw the Bad video, my mum got so excited because she LOVED off the wall and thriller so one of her fave artists had FINALLY bought out a new album, and my little brother and I caught on fast! I remember her showing me the rock with you video to show me what Michael used to look like, I was so convinced it was magic (at how he could change his skin colour)!! When we were growing up instead of watching cartoons mum and dad would make music videos for us to watch by taping songs off music countdowns etc.. so we had tapes full of Queen,Genesis, Paul Simon, Fleetwood Mac, Kylie Minogue, Madonna... all highly illegal lol, but it was DOMINATED by MJ vids from Bad, including classic vids too. Bad was my first ever tape I bought when I was 5, and it was played almost every day in the car and at home, until one day in 1990 the tape was inevitably chewed. We were unconsable, my brother and I actually cried. Maybe by then it wasnt played every day but it was still a favourite. Thank God for CDs! My fave songs... I don't think you can choose with Bad, I beleive it is Michael's best work. Maybe because its such a huge part of my childhood I don't know.. even the additional songs from the 2001 version ROCK. If I had to pick one.... Leave me Alone. I love that video and how angry MJ sounds as hes telling off the press. and the dance he does with the Elephant Man's bones!!

Después del fenómeno Thriller ¿que podía hacer Michael Jackson? es más nadie ha podido superar al mítico disco hasta la fecha. Pero bueno Michael Jackson nos vuelve a sorprender y saca un disco en el que la caracterización es casi tan importante como su evolución musical. Vemos en los distintos videos a un MJ como gangster, pandillero, e incluso en una atracción de feria. Es un disco más complejo que los anteriores sin lugar a dudas.
