Early edited demo version featured on Michael’s box-set, THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION, issued in November 2004. A different, longer version also exists, with Michael heard screaming at the beginning – after a sound protection wall fell on him as he was about to record.
Subject of a court hearing in Colorado in February 1994, after songwriter Crystal Cartier accused Michael of stealing the song from her, claiming she had written, copyrighted and recorded the song in 1985, as part of another song, Player.
Michael testified how Dangerous grew out of a song titled Streetwalker, which he co-wrote with William ‘Bill’ Bottrell in 1985. His original demo version was played in court; Michael also gave a cappella performances of Dangerous and Billie Jean, and provided the court with a rare insight into his songwriting habits. As Cartier was unable to supply any original tapes to back up her claim, the judge found in Michael’s favour, and his accuser was denied the chance to appeal.
