Michael Jackson - Pretty Young Thing

Originally written by Michael with Greg Phillinganes, but totally re-done to a more up-tempo beat by Quincy Jones and James Ingram. It was recorded by Michael for his album, Thriller, issued in December 1982.

Sisters Janet and La Toya were the 'pretty young things' singing 'na na na' back at Michael.

It charted at no.10 on the Hot 100 and no.46 on the R&B singles chart in the US, and no.11 in the UK making it Michael's sixth Top 10 hit on the Hot 100 from six releases from Thriller - a new record from one album.

A demo version by Michael was sampled by Monica on her single, All Eyes On Me - charted at no.32 on the R&B chart in the US. "We used vocals from the song that didn't make the Thriller album," said Rodney Jerkins. "He (Michael) had more vocals and ad-libs that were never heard, and we used the ones that were not heard."

New vocals ('get it on, get it on'), recorded by Michael circa 2000, were included on the track featured on the Japanese version of Monica's album, which was cancelled in the US/Europe.

A demo, recorded between April and October 1982, was included on Michael's box-set, The Ultimate Collection, issued in November 2004.
