Featured a soaring guitar solo - inspired by the song Eruption - by Eddie Van Halen, who was invited to guest on the track by Quincy. Van Halen contributed completely free of any charge, so keen was he to be involved.

"I did it as a favour", said Van Halen.

Beat It topped the Hot 100 for three weeks and R&B singles chart for one week, and peaked at no.3 in the UK. Also won the Grammy Record of the Year award among many.

The song was also featured in an anti-drunk campaign in the US for which Michael collected a special award from President Reagan at the White House, for his support.

Michael a pulvériser toutes les barrières avec ce tube :

Un black qui fait du rock comme les Stones (bien que la chanson n'ait aucun point commun avec leur style)
et qui en plus fait du rock en se payant le luxe d'être accompagné par un blanc : Eddie Van Hallen !

Le clip a révélé Michael comme un grand danseur et a assis sa réputation de virtuose de la danse avec Billie Jean et Thriller.

Sans parler du succès auprès du public, les gens s'habillaient avec des vestes pelines de zip de partout après la sortie du clip ! C'est devenu une mode !!

Petit plus, on retrouve ce titre sur la B.O. de Retour vers le Futur 2...
